Hidden treasures of BL Doujin #6 – Sennen Iro no Natsu

Given the short interval inbetween this and the entry published the other day, I’d like to say “bloggin’ like a clockwork”, but in fact as people following this feature here on N-Field (if there are any to begin with ^^) probably know best, a full month has gone by since the last venture into the neglected but sweet BL Doujin spheres of special kind. And without intending to sound bigheaded it’s certainly no exaggeration to state that the particular talent spotlighted through the latest addition lives up through and through to the concept of Hidden treasures of BL Doujin…

Comike73 truely has been a lucrative event for BL Doujinshi especially on belongs of the sneaky published kind. Not only was it the time when the already spotlighted ByoukenRI had its tasty debut but also right there at the winterly installment back in 2007 the sweet little publication today’s write-up is dedicated to faced release. As it should be easy to deduce from the title and moreso the cover art featured, the main theme for Nishiura zetto. is completely aimed at Ookiku Furikabutte – the popular baseball series which lended inspiration to a whole branch of Doujins ever since the first Anime adaption. However, that Oofuri also represents crucial motivation for the artist behind Doujin Circle Sennen Iro no Natsu to celebrate a quiet but nevertheless striking Debut at this event’s opening day, was beyond my wildest expectations (dreams). But before getting myself lost in excitement and raving at this point already or going straight to content details, I’d say this is the proper place to fill-in people wondering who’s the high profile in charge crafting a rarity amongst BL Doujin on such sneaky ways this time around. Maybe to fellow AKABEiSOFT2 reading this the style represented on the cover art for Nishiura zetto. is already telling enough, however in case not let me drop the bomb now by revealing the mastermind behind Sennen Iro no Natsu is no one less than the Sofbrand’s head artist and on Doujin scales widely reknown Ero giant per excellence – ALPHa! Of course (and ironically on equal manners as DIGITAL LOVER’s Nakajima Yuka did at the very same event!) this first venture into BL grounds of hers is done not only by taking on a different Circle name rather than adding this to her range for ALPHa to Yukaina Nakamatachi (which yours truly is a rapid addict of as previous blogging here on N-Field may have showcased) but also in terms of (pen) name it’s “stealth mode” all over again referring to herself merely as “Kalin” during the Atogaki (postscript) part of this Doujinshi. Now that the release and more importantly in context here artist specific facts are cleared up a few words on the content the Sennen Iro no Natsu publication got prepaired are to follow next. Much as noted earlier during this write-up, the main theme Kalin chose to focus for her debut release goes to Oofuri. Before one may jump to a conclusion as to what this Ero Doujin fame would do incognito with the pretty much all-male cast of the series wild speculations (and certainly dreams to some of us *including myself there*) have to be steamed down. In fact, despite it basically being ALPHa responsible for Oofuri goodness there, on belongs of content rating the (ALPHa to Yukaina Nakamatachi obligatory) “Adults only” warning went totally missing and that for a good reason. In fact, if Nishiura zetto. had to be labeled the description of “Ikemen Doujinshi” in the likes of how others (such as the already spotlighted Tometa, tsubusuyo!) have brought up instantly comes to mind. More precisely expressed this means that for those in fear of heavy (tatsy) BL action in the veins as ByoukenRI crafted back at the same installment of Comiket can relax whilst those of us ALPHa addicts probably expecting such will be taught of a better. But despite not going exactely were crazy yours truly may have desired her Kalin producing to head, I cannot call Nishiura zetto. a leftdown for a single moment! Concept-wise the short kept (eight pages in total as noted during the spec’s with this count including front and backside cover) Oofuri venture of Kalin almost mirrors the layout/presentation as its often to be found within the ALPHa to Yukaina Nakamatachi Omake Doujin publications for Full Set of hers. Elaborting further what I’m referring to with that statement, also for this all monochrome Sennen Iro no Natsu Offset Doujinshi the unique (ALPHa-esque ^^) combination of monochrome art eyecandy show-off with hilarious Yonkoma goodness is represented. Kalin executes this concept on quite clever ways through an Oofuri short story that is continous from start to end while told via the Yonkoma panel included on almost every page of the Doujinshi right next to a full scale monochrome artwork featuring the tasty Oofuri leads in different situations though also connected and actually part of the told story. Things start out with Maria (yes, her appearance makes this a non-Ikemen only release you could say) rushing to the teams locker room where naturally she finds the members exposed coming back from the showers (portrayed in outstanding hilarious ALPHa CAT esque Chibi style!!). While revealing her plans to the team as to how getting some/more money collected Kalin takes the chance outside the Yonkoma to provide us with her take on some of the Oofuri boys in “dressing-up mode” at the locker room. More precisely it starts out with Yuichiro pulling up his boxershorts (this probably being the most risky Ikemen art featured within here and is absolutely appreciated *waterdrops all over the body and a facetowel around the neck merely *about to* be dressed with boxers!), continues with a quite sexy (shirt still open) shot of Abe while he zips up the trousers. That’s as far as the more “fleshy” stuff contained within the Sennen Iro no Natsu debut work goes the final three artworks and coevally pages Nishiura zetto. consists of goes into more classic kept Bishounen appreciator terrain (which I count myself in as well anyways ^^). The idea of Maria what the gang could do to collect some money comes out when Yuichirou is shown fully dressed up as waiter at the monochrome art dedicated on this character (and quite droolworthy I might add!). The final page, well it’s the sample shot I took above, which is (cover art aside) also the sole out of the content without a Yonkoma panel attached but that’s for conclusive sake I’d say. As can be seen it features cute Mihashi inbetween Abe and I guess the other one is Shugo (given that my interest in Oofuri goes as far as the mighty fine Doujin releases it inspires, at times it is pretty tough for me to tell the characters apart *gomen*). That’s it already, much as noted with a total page count of eight and actual content reducing that count for at least three full pages (the wonderful Ren and Abe cover artwork certainly counts though!) the first venture of Kalin is rather short kept. But how’s the saying? Quality over quantity…even though that being an outmoded phrase, I’d like to use it in context of Nishiura zetto. Because, despite the length and content rating one may not expect from the artist in charge, it *is* ALPHa (Kalin) crafted goodness which means high quality Ikemen eyecandy served through almost (length aside) flawless execution. Also at this point I must drop the note that out of *all* the spotlighted publications for this feature so far, getting ahold of this first and up to now (sadly) sole efforts of ALPHa turned Kalin was a real tough (certainly *the* toughest in case of publications acquired over the time I follow this artist now!) quest for me and with lots of patience and money involved I ultimately managed to alocate a source (auction) I was able to get ahold of it. Believe me, *lots* of effort went into this ALPHa fanboy’s attempt to sneak-up on her premiere Sennen Iro no Natsu work (which certainly would have been much easier if not published via such “undercover” methods to begin with back when the event was fully ongoing…), but ultimately and upon its arrival it became clear to me that Nishiura zetto. represents a real treasure amongst BL/Ikemen Doujin sphere which I would not want to miss at all and was worth it all! Despite Kalin not leaving any mention of further plans for Sennen Iro no Natsu (as the Atogaki message mainly consists of Kalin Oofuri talk) here’s still keeping hopes up for a continuation at some point.
