Yandere Cookie – more bakery made of even more Love!!

8 09 2010

In order to prevent blogging as conducted here on N-Field by yours truly not to get all too one-sided, I thought to come up with a little something supposed to give those a break who couldn’t care less about my Tokyo 2010 travel writting, which certainly got quite some focus in recent times here. Hence today’s write-up basically goes from “anectodes of this Gaijin’s 1st Tokyo trip” to “what he brought along” which of course is a total different thing, nee ^^ But nevertheless hopefully a worthwile read, especially to fellow Yandere lovers and the sweet tooths among those out there.

• Ai Yandere Cookie

Almost exactely one year after the first series was unleashed Chara Goods Brand coade came up with a follow-up release among their 2010 summer line-up. Naturally there was no way for this Yandere lover to pass up on it and so during one of my Akibahara animate visits, more precisely phrased their wide spreading Chara goods floor, I happily returned from Tokyo with a pack of Yandere Cookie!
As some may remember (or not), the deeply fostered addiction and fascination over Yandere-ism already led yours truly to import the first installment of such sweetness, Yandere Pie coade published in summer last year. With the same concept carried over and apparently improved, the anticipation over how the Cookie compares to the Pie was quite high. Having “cleared” the brought along box, of course solely for blogging sake (not as if I’d be a sweet-tooth myself ^^), through this little write-up today, here’s aiming to provide some insight (also picture-wise literally ment) on the latest invention for helpless lovestruck Yandere(kko) fans out there.
First of all, some notes on things concerning the surface. Ai Yandere Cookie once again comes along housed in a pretty awesome package. Not only is it slightly larger as been the case for the first series’ (Yandere Pie) box, but more important coade managed to get Yandere illustrating talent Inugahora An back for art/design! Thus a big plus as far as I’m concerned, especially since this Yandere lover was still a bit disappointed over the fact Inugahora-sensei was not on board the more or less recent 3rd installment of Edge Records’ Yandere Drama CD, hence the joy over more goodness of this kind lastly visualized by this artist ended up as crucial reason for me to get ahold of this Chara Goodie release in the first place. And thus leading me right to the package design comments and thoughts. While the methods how coade/Inugahora handled the Yandere theme for Goods of this kind already got me drooling over the Yandere Pie package and it’s lovely box cover and also internal art (especially the little gimmick once finished with the included Pie), the labeled/advertised improvement for Yandere Cookie was really no hot air at all! Featuring an all new Yanderekko on the front box art with an absolute lovely combination of blushing plus “dead-eyes” expression as atmospheric accomodation, the real cool surprise comes up once opening the box (this also construeded a bit more box-like than the loose hinged type last time around). “Who’s that (girl)?!” a question raised by a lovestruck acquaintance – it’s the Pie baking Yanderekko with a shocking close to the edge (in the likes of “how dare you, accepting sweets from another girl/Yanderekko!”) expression upon her face! Absolutely awesome twist as insert one has to open up in order to reach the cookies inside. On a more release technical note, there’s a total of eight Yandere Cookie housed inside. Much as in case of the 1st series, also these are spaced up in three segments within the box itself and yeah, there’s also our Yanderekko cutie facial frightening close-up hiding behind the cookies to reproachful glaring at you once finished with the sweets ^^ Quantity-wise by those spec’s it could appear as if saving rather than improvement was on coade’s mind, given that the predecessor came along with nine pieces included in total while sharing the same price (630 Yen) as this follow-up release now. However this leads right to some notes regarding the goodness itself – the bakery. Because once lastly taken a closer look and moreso bite at one Yandere Cookie, any such arguments looses weight (contrary to the sweet tooth one could say ^^). Of course, the subject’s nature at hand means opinions and moreso taste varries for sure, but I consider it a fact, that this time around coade really provided what is promised by the package. As hopefully the above displayed picture showcase, most important here to me was that Yandere Cookie really *is* a Cookie, instead of the labeling last time around which turned out to be more of a biscuit than something I would associate with the category of a Pie. Medium sized cookie in terms of dimension, with the absolute tasty concept of “Ichigo (Strawberry) Jam in Cookie” makes Yandere Cookie absolutley delicious. In fact, once opening the package and moreso the packing of the first Cookie taken out from the box in the course of taking shots for this entry, the sweet smell of the bakery gave me a hard time focusing on business ^^ Besides, once finished with the “photo shoot” it took me and a fellow sweet-tooth friend of mine less than 2 days to completely “clear” the box from its eight delicious Cookies inside, something I honestly can’t claim been the case back with the Yandere Pie box (where I actually had still one left to re-take pictures of recently in preparation for this write-up). I’m not trying to go down on the previous release, but my simple yet maybe biased (love my Cookies with smooth dough and if Jam is involved or better inside it’s total win in my book) stance is that real tasty improvement has been conducted on the concept! Given the size of these sweets, the aformentioned quantity reduction over 1 piece is also not minded, in fact it may even made me feel like the Yandere Pie was a bit too over-packed compared on these terms with the second series. Much as done back then, also the Yandere Cookie box comes along with some Omake besides the lovely ideas gone into the package design itself, with a Yandere(kko) Shiori contained for bonus sake as well. Rendering the previous release in these terms, there are two kinds of Shiori available and randomly packed into the Yandere Cookie boxes, thus besides absolute winning delicious taste of the sweets themself, yet another reason which makes it a real regret of mine not having brought along one or two more boxes.
For Yandere addicts and/or sweet tooths there’s absolutely no excuse to pass-up on this part among coade’s 2010 summer line-up, especially the former should love the concept and more importantly execution carried over and improved this year around. Despite the 1st installment been great in this Yandere appreciator’s humble opinion as well, Yandere Cookie tops the greatness on several scales launched with Yandere Pie as I really consider it a little highlight among the flood of Chara Goods of its kind, especially due to the niché we’re talking about here. Here’s really looking forward to what and how coade will enhance this series hopefully next year around (how about Yandere Cake? Sounds good, nee?).

ComiTre15 HEART WORK – Usa-tan the fashion mascot

4 04 2010

In case I haven’t told you before (and my pretty bad Seifuku additction wasn’t telling enough either ^^) let me drop this confession lastly through the short yet also Doujin and moreso thoughts/impressions entry about to enter N-Field’s blogspheres during this Easter weekend which enables to sideline enough time for such to begin with – I am a fashion victim. Spending painstaking consideration each and every day what to wear, combine and what would look good just for the sake to ..look good (heck there were times I was close to go for glasses just because I had that weird idea these would suite my style ^^”) is one of my guilty pleasures. I’m not proud of that but at the same time can’t be helped with..I’m European after all ^^ In case you endured to read so far yet keep wondering what all of this has to do with the write-up at hand, well, it *is* the focus and also explanation which has up to a huge percentage lead to the acquisition in spotlight…

HEART WORK ComiTre15 T-shirt
Release: 2010/01/17

Of course there’s more to it than just good looks when it comes to the Doujin Circle and its head mistress in charge of this Goodie- Suzuhira Hiro of HEART WORK fame. Admitted I’ve never been cagey about my feelings concerning this artist and still am convinced that in direct comparisson and moreso long-running team-up with Nishimata Aoi, Ms. Suzuhira couldn’t leave such utmost positive strike on this Otaku than as the JOKER TYPE goddess was and more importantly *is* capable to acchieve. However as also expressed quite some while ago it’s because of the split between them that both are enabled to successfully follow their own way also on aspects of artistical producing. This also led to HEART WORK stepping forth much more inspired than as this Circle struck me as during the years before and once Suzuhira Hiro got rid of that silly ape semi-mascot she’s been associated with back at their joint Doujin time it was the era of another and much inferior mascot character to be born under the HEART WORK spheres – Usa-tan http://heart-work.info/about . A cute little rabbid Satan as the name shall indicate portrayed with a trio of curly hair on its head displaying “666″ and with that cute sinister impression on its face another significnat element of Usa-tan is the e-guitar the HEART WORK mascot is equipped with. As simple as it sounds, Suzuhira-sensei created one of the most impressive Doujin Circle image characters with lovely Usa-tan combining cute with cool in the worlds of MOE. Rising in popularity among fans HEART WORK Sets which often include original Usa-tan Goods as part of Full Sets are sought after releases ever since its first appearance. But who would have thought that in the winterly coldness of January this year Suzuhira-sensei would enable Usa-tan fashion symbol status (the 2009 summer Comike Usa-tan Necktie aside)? With a short kept notice/update concerning the HEART WORK participation on this year’s Comic Treasure 15 held in January at Osaka Intex and therewith also her Circle plans for the event this fashion geek did not realize what sort of goodness was in the works by then. It wasn’t the first time when stressed Suzuhiro-sensei sticked to one or at most two types of Goods for smaller events (i.e. Usa-tan Mug Cup for SunCre42) which she had enrolled for with HEART WORK, so I didn’t really pay close attention to the non-preview (picture) writting of hers when she announced an Usa-tan Ema (votive tablet) plus a T-shirt. However when I saw the ComiTre15 HEART WORK Set offered right when the event was fully ongoing it didn’t take long for me to fall in love with the latter part of her publication and thus leading to get ahold of the Shirt. Color combination of dark/black with pink in the days of metrosexuality turned unisex anyways and that alone I wouldn’t really call an eye-catcher anymore. Yet the ways of how coloration on Suzuhria Hiro’s first Doujin T-shirt has been executed on is quite outstanding and actually gives this Goodie the looker aspect back. A plain black shirt with the motif on it in sparkling and strong kept pink imprint so that it doesn’t look cheap nor unprofessional crafted at all. This element the HEART WORK ComiTre15 Shirt bears is something I highly doubt to be capable to render in its proper or actual beauty via the photos taken of it anyways. First though some notes concerning quality of the product at hand before I will loose myself in drooling and raving over how this Shirt looks like. According to the label Suzuhira-sensei assigned Printstar for manufacturing of the Shirt which are according to their slogan “confined of quality”. That is certainly anything else but a mere catch phrase given this Shirt’s fabric is really high quality (contrary to other Doujin and moreso commercial Shirts within my carpet which I definitely payed about the same pricing for). It’s an heavyweight Pre-shrunk (means it has undergone shrinking during manufacture to minimize subsequent shrinkage!) material/fabric with the imprint on it flawless and strong attached onto. Thus coming to the aforementioned fanboyish raving over the design itself. On the front side of the Shirt we’ve got the HEART WORK logo – the Doujin Circle’s name written onto a heart symbol. This not being some kind of cutey heart but Suzuhira all over again shows how damn cool she is going with the symbol of an actual heart loosely kept in the shape of how that is associated in romantical sense rather than real looks of the organ. On the backside of the HEART WORK ComiTre15 T-shirt we’ve lastly reached the Usa-tan part and it’s equally made of cool eyecandy as the front – the letters HW and inbetween rabbit Satan Usa-tan with guitar and evil grin upon its face whilst underneath that artwork it’s got “HEART WORK Suzuhira Hiro 2009 Summer” (seems to indicate that Suzuhira was aiming or even assigning Printstar with this T-shirt making way before ComiTre I guess) in somewhat credit-like sense phrased/imprinted. Awesome design hence also featured on the Shirt backside while I appreciate and adore the more subtle yet impressive frontal look chosen for the Shirt. Another and final sign of HEART WORK producing is visable on the left should side sleeve which has the HW Usa-tan logo from the back plus the frontal HEART WORK heart logo in petit-size underneath printed on it. Much as stated earlier during this short write-up I guess the displayed and taken photographs of Suzuhira Hiro’s ComiTre participation/publication are not displaying the goodie at hand in its proper beauty to begin with anyways, but let me drop the remark at this point that the HEART WORK Usa-tan T-shirt represents to me the rare occassion of Otakuism meeting and combining with the inner fashion geek for once perfectly. In case you wonder whether yours truly already wore the Shirt (after all temperatures are slowly beginning to rise again after this harsh winter) I must decline that though. Not that I wouldn’t love to but I’m still waiting for the right combination (read: jacket) to arrive here from Japan this month (and yeah, before you may wonder here’s crazy enough to also import fashion from the land of the rising sun besides the major/main Doujin collecting ^_^) and on top it’s a bit unfortunate that the size of this Shirt is kept to L-size (which I do think there hasn’t been any smaller formats released for) so quite (too) large for me to wear it stand alone. All there’s left to state at this point is: Usa-tan rocks! Suzuhira Hiro may not get me quite as excited in direct comparisson with her former artist comrade (Nishimata Aoi) yet she’s definitely about to gain fame as styling icon amongst Doujin spheres with her Usa-tan producing and that makes HEART WORK regain fixed spot amongst those Circle I pay meticulous attention to its producing.

Trick or Treat?

31 10 2009

So it’s *that* time of the year already (this year feels like it’s rushing by at rapid speed moreso than those before it, nee?). Halloween at last! Even though this event doesn’t receive much or even comparable same attention nor interest in my part of the world than it’s celebrated in more western as well as also meanwhile Japan and often those here joining the craze brought along by Halloween are viewed as crazy people merely jumping the bandwagon of western trends, I do love Halloween *a lot*. Reason for that as helpless Seifuku addict of course should be evident, but furthermore I do appreciate this festival day much for it being in its more basic / traditional sense by far more..well, meaningful to me than any other more widely accepted dress-up festivals here (which usually are held as yet another drink-till-you-drop occasion for most and here that’s not too far off from the fundamental idea behind them in my view either). So in short, my point being that I love Halloween hence anticipate October 31st each year quite much too and reason enough for me to get this expressed by compilling a few lines on that at this point. On the (hopefully) more treat than trick related noting side of things, let me wrap-up this spooky unusual love declaration to Halloween with some (eye)candy which I got ahold of last year around that time as well, though event-related-wise originating from the ’08 autumn edition of DreamParty (of which btw. the ’09 autumn edition has also been held just this past weekend in Japan). Who’d possible be more suitable as Halloween representative than giant hat wearing Lilith? ^_~

ハッピーハロウィン!
皆さん、楽しいハロウインをお過ごしください !!

Yandere Pie – bakery made from Too Much Love!!!

11 10 2009

Every once in a while yours truly aims for an update that would end up being something new and fresh to my blogging here on N-Field. Needless to specifically mention that often those high set goals of mine turn out the complete opposite way in fact, but I might as well keep on trying my best, nee? ^_^” Today’s write-up for example intended to be one of those posting experiments which I’m admitted not sure will succeed or fail, but here’s been looking forward to lastly get another entry fully devoted on the theme at hand done.
Yandere  – a  much too neglected trait and fine arts amongst Bishoujo / Moe culture nowadays which we’re exposed on much too seldom occassion to the hour of birth of a new mistress who’s turning into that state of mind as once so many years ago a certain Swedish pop duo sang it so appellative with “She’s a little bit dangerous”. Of course, if you look at it Yandere much as experts explain, begins with “Too Much Love” and bears the exact same effect on us appreciator of the lovely but endangered Yanderekko.
So, when Character Goods maker coade sensed this sentiment towards Yandere and brought us sweet tooths amongst appreciators something to look out for, how could I possibly pass up on a chance to get some delicious Yandere goodness at last?

Yandere Pie
Release: 2009/07/18

あなたのためだけに作ったの!

-Bonus Yandere Shiori
-Packed pie
-
Lastly the pie itself
-And empty box and the Yanderekko

Arriving in a prevailing pink colored box which resembles size-wise packaging of sweets like pralines as we use to know it also at our home turfs, a droolworthy Yanderekko graces the case and greets the customer with the phrase “Anata no tame ni❤” (only for you) imprinted next to her whilst that appears like a warning notice in combination. Seriously, whom else could have animate’s character goods (food) Brand coade assigned to come up with a suiting and coevally awesome Yanderekko box art than famed Inugahora An associated by us helpless (lovestruck?) fans with the topic lastly ever since she has gone down into Yandere history through her work on EDGE RECORDS’ part of the Nemurenai CD Series dedicated on this epic but much to seldom aspect amongst Japan’s Bishoujo culture? Hence aside the idea itself being considered pretty freakin’ awesome on its own, the artistical involvement of Inugahora-sensei back with goodness of this kind, beared a crucial factor which led this addict to get himself a box of Yandere Pie or as the box and pie package states it to be a “delicious (Strawberry) pie”. The content of this lovely and also quite sturdy box (seemingly animate understood that the Yandere addicts wouldn’t even dare to think about trashing the box once empty ^_~) consists of nine pies in total which are as shown via one of the above listed shots, separated into three branches within the box. Each of the pies being tightly sealed though ready for consumption. Before that though if there’s one thing we fans should have learned from Yangirekko trying themself as cooks like Ryuugu Rena, than that’s certainly to take a close-up look at your food when it’s made from “Too Much Love” ^_~ Hence instict adviced me to take firstly a look at the date of expiration (which is of course set far off in the future) and secondly I guess closer look at the pie itself wouldn’t hurt either *j/k*. However I must confess that upon opening the box and once taken out one of the nine pies from its packing, I felt victim to Engrish or usage of that language in Japan. No native speaker either, but according to my dictionary “pie” describes a baked dish made of pastry, which was what I expected in petit-size to receive through this goodie as well. However as the pictures taken from hopefully showcase enough, size and also form-wise this contains less of the so-labeled “Delicious pie” rather than being a tiny cookie or biscuit instead of something I’d consider a pie. However, that’s truely the only left-down or complaint I bear more towards coade’s labeling rather than the release itself. So, how’s the taste you may wonder? Delicious through and through that’s for sure, while I still wonder about the strawberry ingredient that is supposed to be included within the biscuit’s tiny surface striations. Yandere Pie or cookie tastes really good as to be expected from candy coming from Japan, but the labeled Strawberry taste wasn’t amongst those flavors here that stood out most or even as much to really notice it, contrary to the crystal sugar bits on the cake’s surface. Yet when bakery like that is made by a Yanderekko there shouldn’t much complaints dared to be raised, nee? ^_~ Seriously though the Yandere Pie despite it’s mislabeling or probably false conception on my part tasted just as the package promised “Delicious”. Furthermore progressing though all the nine cookies included (being a strictly weight conscious person, maybe even a little bit too much than it’s good for me, I looked hard at the packing and box without any calory notice to be found on it) and once empty, the box itself steps forth with a lovely surprise as reward that managed to please this Yandere addict and make up for everything else (here’s merely referring to the second picture taken of the empty box on that note ^_^). Another present included is an original Yandere Shiori (bookmark) hidden underneath the sealed pies at a branch of the box. This lovely little extra goodie which is about as tall as the pie itself has been made available in two versions raising the collector’s spirit as only one is included within the box and therefore little more Yandere Pie is required to complete the Shiori collection. All in all for the pricing of 630 Yen (incl. tax) this chara goods categorized release certainly turned out to be a worthy purchase which is even moreso appreciated and adored from the Yandere addict point of view. Hence if you’re like me sharing the big love (or possibly “Too Much Love” *yeah I like to repeat that Yandere describing phrase quite a lot ^_~*) for the lovestruck beauties amongst Bishoujo culture, you should definitely at least once tried yourself at the delicious taste of Yanderekko crafted bakery. I for one know for sure to get myself at least one more pack, not only to complete the bonus Shiori duo but especially because I do consider such creative inventions like this by animate / coade, which lastly takes up Yandere as its concept is definitely worth to support and here’s hoping that a follow-up release (yes, I am aware of other CG sweets coade brought out similar release after that though non of Yandere lover interest sadly) won’t take long either.

Stick Poster inUgomachi – onwards with mark II

12 04 2009

Some of you may remember (or also looked forward to) pop-cultural project Stick Poster inUgomachi which had its “debut” back last year as part of the Kagari Bishoujo Illustration Contest (and therewith caused some buzz) and for which it’s been announced in January that a follow-up wave of Ugomachi themed Stick Poster has been decided on, assumably due to the success the concept celebrated during its first shot.

Labeled under the title “Stick Poster inUgomachi mark II” this second series consists of 16 motives all in all and much as the debut strike the concept to assign popular names out of Japan’s Bishoujo/Moe Art scene to illustrate locations, scenary and througoutly beautiful (and therefore coming across with high collectible value) Stick Poster artworks was carried over for “mark II“.

Given that I never kept the promise through which I ended the coverage regarding the announcement on the 2nd series – meaning to keep updating once more information becomes available – and moreover in the meanwhile some of my mark II acquisitions shown up, I felt like getting back on this issue through another (today’s) short write-up. Admitted the release of this second series, while on the talents involving side of things definitely lining up right next to those contributions the first Stick Poster inUgomachi release featured, went by quite silent or in comparisson with less buzz than a year ago, somewhat related topics (since the Stick Poster art featured back for SP inUgomachi No. 1 is made use of) like the Itaru-sensei designed Cookies aside. Nevertheless it gladly did not completely slip my attention to keep an eye out for these and so this Stick Poster addict managed to sneak up on some of the lovely mark II goodness this year around as well (ironically while AQUAPLUS really *did* take up orders for Refill packs just as they’ve done last year prior to the release of the Ugomachi Poster craze as supsected, I missed out to get an order on several of them placed once again…).
Now in “better late than never” fashion, let’s reflect upon the line-up the committee assembled for Stick Poster inUgomachi II with some photos attached for those Posters yours truly picked up this time around and that said, I may as well update the entry (in case though for real!) once more of the mark II Posters arrive here (in more particular terms I’m tempted to go for No. 17, 18, 20 and 30 so you may will see more pictures added in the aftermath). Comments, corrections (especially in case of the 27th art theme I’m not really sure I’ve got the reading / romanizing right) and their likes as usual much welcomed. Btw. the numbers given to each of them is according to the official site and indicates that these are sort of considered to tie-in with the 16 Posters put out for and as the first strike (hence not starting with No. 1 here).

All there’s left for me to add at this point is that they better bring on a “mark III” next year, because the concept as featured for Stick Poster inUgomachi definitely is a winning one adding some lecture value to the content of the collector’s Binder ^_~

A little piece of hugable Tonya goodness

5 04 2009

Slightly more than a month ago I made note and commenced coverage on character goods of this sort through an already quite splendid release sneaked-up on. But ever since than it became quiet on this “newly launched feature” made note of. Guess I can blame it (once again) on the increasing stress level in recent times that has played an important role leading to this state, but lastly I got off my lazy bum in order to present you with the second or follow-up entry on Dakimakura Cover thoughts/impressions compilation. Here’s hoping today’s is going to turn out into a less embarrassing result as last time around (I actually do consider my photographing skills in these terms having improved..just a bit). Enough introducing talk done and now moving straight onwards to the content of today’s write-up.

Ayakashibito REI Tonya Toushindai Dakimakura Cover
Size: 150 x 50 cm
Release: 2008/08

Ayakashibito REI Tonya Toushindai Dakimakura Cover

-Tonya close-up shot
-Tonya A side shot
-Tonya ちょっとH side shot

Long has it taken me to get ahold of this specific Dakimakura Cover, but finally (after a rather widespread quest I’ve embarked on since back during the release of this goodie) with the harvest of recent Taiwan Doujin event prowl shown up here (like noted and started to get some coverage done for as some may remember) also this much treasured goodie made its way into my evergrowing REI collection. As I assume some reading this write-up may not have heard of the story behind this release, those may wonder what made this beloved Taiwan originating art goddess’ talents cross with Softbrand propeller‘s nowadays considered classic Visual Novel project Ayakashibito. Therefore I’d like to get this started with some short-kept (really this time around ^_^) release history note first. It’s actually quite simple, because the connection between the artistical mastermind in charge for illustrating this goodie and the project its been released for are not based on any Doujin Circle activities (meaning no REI’s ROOM publication nor part of these like in the veins of her Comiket74 Set) nor hinting on possible joint work to come forth (though I guess not to be the only fanboy who’d *love* to see REI in charge of art for a propeller Soft title), rather than relating to the country which the one (REI) comes from, and the other (Ayakashibito) received porting and localization in due to its success. Last year Future-Digi a Taiwanese publisher which licenses and localizes Japanese Eroge/Bishoujo Soft as well as BL and Otome games announced the very first Taiwan porting of a work by famed Brand propeller and of course what better title to get this commenced with than the fan-favoured Ayakashibito? Understandable that the effort invested on localization had to be presented in proper and in this case pompous manner as well and therefore they (Future-Digi) arranged and slated the Tawain porting of the propeller classic to face release coincidental with and for annual held Doujin event Fancy Frontier last year (Fancy Frontier 12). Moreover these dedicated publishers apparently aimed to cap it all and so in the couse of collaborating between Japan’s and Taiwan’s Otaku apparatus the goods added to the firstpress limited edition of Ayakashibito were of the truely magnificent and awesome kind as well, even topping those the Japanese original had. And that’s where the spotlighted REI goodness comes into the play, because in limited quantity Future-Digi offered two different types of Ayakashibito themed Dakimakura Covers. Version A illustrated by Chuuou Higashiguchi who is (as propeller fans know best) the head artist for their works ever since this one, featuring heroine Ichinotani Touko and the B Version of Ayakashibito Dakimakura Cover goodness caters to fans of heroine Tonya as well as (or) those of us helpless addicted REI fans, because this awesome artist lended her skills to illustrate Tonya as sort of special guest collaboration to commemorate the Taiwan porting. Even though I highly enjoy Chuuou Higashiguchi’s unique art and (as some may remember) follow DEGREE publications as I find the time/money to do so (not to speak of the temptation his Dakimakura Cover version inherits to me), the true highlight of these release methods and goods Future-Digi in cooperation with propeller and the artist in charge brought out definitely was represented through the second – Version B – Dakimakura where the level of temptation it came along with was of insane scale so that I *knew* there wouldn’t be a way around getting into extra costs and efforts to import this gem. Well, it has taken me longer than planned but lastly the wait has payed off and Tonya REI style in hugable dimensions was mine, completing coevally my collection on  Dakimakura Cover releases as put out by this art goddess so far (so yeah, today’s entry shall also forewarn you that more REI’s ROOM Dakimakura talk is about to follow ^_~).
Upon the arrival I had to notice that also the packing Future-Digi has conducted for the cover was not of the lazy sort either, because instead of the often merely plastic or sheet wrapping as more common for these goods and their shipping they sent it out within a real (PVC?) plastic bag with knobs to open and take out the Dakimakura. This packing also features a logo-styled sticker attached with the silhouette of the represented cover heroine (in their respective interpretation/take) and the manufacturer/company logo combined on it. It may sound little, but that’s the piece of extra effort which I really do make note of and found a great way to ensure save storage of the goodie as well. And getting out with the major downside or rant as most people which got ahold of this goodie made note of, storage in this folded together shape is also apparently part of the manufacturer’s intention. Or so it seemed, because as high quality the material (almost as top-notch sateen as used by and for the C74 REI’s ROOM Haya Dakimakura) it’s been made of *is*, the measures were a bit questionable. Stated by Future-Digi to be 150 x 50 cm sized, the latter specification seems somewhat vague as towards the lower (illustration-wise heroine hip height) the width is “fluctuating” and (as hopefully the close-up shots showcase) increases so that I think it could get a bit troublesome to slip the Dakimakura over a fitting pillow or more precisely put the result may not look as satisfying there. Honestly though that’s a rant, but still a minor one because it definitely could have been worse (i.e. if the width would decrease not making it possible fully “attach” it onto a pillow at all) and lots of this mere complaint is steamed down by the incredible awesomeness the involved parties conducted on other and more visable and in my view essential aspects of this character goodie.
That brings us right to the core which lead to purchase – the featured artwork. I’d say that a collaboration project as conducted for goodies of this kind like here goes towards the quite outstanding type to begin with, fellow REI’s ROOM fans will certainly agree with me on that sentiment. However spicing up that winning concept with REI presenting her slightly ecchi take on heroine Tonya got me hooked and worshipping this artist even moreso for that chara selection and more importantly the interpretation as featured on the Dakimakura. In quite goodie common fashion REI drew this Ayakashibito heroine in two different “bed time” pose. One side featuring Tonya in still mostly dressed up school uniform wherein REI pulls of so much moelicious likeable cuteness for this illustration it got me all drooling over, I mean aside of the majorly cute look added to Tonya I can’t fully render each and every part of the whole picture that makes REI’s take here so outstanding lovely – is it the school uniform aspect that hits hard on this Seifuku addict’s weak spot, the black stockings which are always a winning element on cute Bishoujo art as far as I’m concerned, Kikimora powers used to add an ambiguous tied-up Loli factor to the artwork or is it just the one missing shoe? Even after lots of time invested to investigate I fail to determine that on one single element inherited, but REI pulls of artistical greatness at each and every centimeter this Dakimakura consists of, that’s for sure. The other matching side contains yet another counter-part illustration by REI of the Ayakashibito character and continuing with the obligatory but *much* appreciated more revealing Tonya side. Just as done for the other “before” shot of Tonya, the pose presented for the embarassed (or ちょっとH) Dakimakura side makes the droolworthy factor increasing into quite dangerous degrees which the REI / Tonya fan possible could choke on overproduction of salivation this causes ^_~ Honestly the more daring side’s illustration sticks to a delicate mix of goodie compulsory “revelation work” with placement of elements such as the often utilized (though in real life unhandy appearing) plaster to keep private parts, well, private plus the wires stepping a bit forth as stylistic device added to it (while the placing of these are 1:1 the same as on the dressed up illustration on the Dakimakura Cover’s other side). Much as can be gathered by the comments thus far, REI truely came up with art from the top-notch quality side of her producing, as it was to be expected with her involved and in charge of illustrating such a release. Much as executed on the artwork itself, noting one particular element which leads to that impression is an impossible task too – whether that’s her distinctive and much loved drawing style itself utilized for the Dakimakura illustration and which lends itself so perfect for the motif featured (resulting in that I wished for *more* of REI’s interpreting propeller work’s or more precisely phrased heroines of these) or the distinctive and therefore fascinating coloration technique as only this artist is capable to produce and which moreover is rather awesomely made use of due to the high quality print that ties in as experienced and loved on Japanese character goods releases of this kind. Especially the later noted aspect leaves off and increases the almost througoutly positive impression this fanboy ended up with for this Dakimakura Cover, because back at its release this goodie had an initial pricing of 1,200 NTW which (back then) converted into roughly 4,200 Yen which than again (as most Dakimakura collectors will affirm) is quite a steal. Of course with especially the Ayakashibito Tonya Cover in the meantime sold out and undergone some change to rarity status not only in Japan (once put up for sale at Japanese fields it clealy doesn’t end at a same pricing level *btw. yours truly tried to win that back than as well*) which therefore resulted into a price increase since the initial release (gladly I manged to sneak up on an option to get ahold of it for the initial 1,200 NTW – not including any additional fees like deputy service fee, shipping and the likes of course). Also viewed from the price perspective the previously noted flaw in size gets somewhat steamed down as well.
In conclusion it can be said that this Dakimakura Cover purchases ended up on the “rather positive” side of goods purchases and also that would considerably understate the real thing here. Up to some extend I should take the utterly biased approach on REI produced or in this case involved releases into consideration, yet that aside there are so many other intriguing aspects inherited as executed on this Dakimakura Cover release that I can safely affirm to represent a high quality addition to my collection of REI published goods (an overall impression also backed-up with that I’m now even moreso tempted to go for the Touko Version A Dakimakura *which is still not that hard to track down unlike the REI one* by Chuuou Higashiguchi next). Future-Digi / propeller and REI’s Ayakashibito Tonya Toushindai Dakimakura Cover therefore marks a release that whether you’re a fan of project released for or artist in charge (or like me both) is througoutly worthwhile setting a great deal (almost) regardless of pricing involved and hopefully further collaborating in this formation is warranted to come up through future Future-Digi releases (at least the recent magic a ride Taiwan porting also outdid the Japanese original in regards of attached goods by quite a mileage).

A little piece of hugable sola goodness

28 02 2009

Heading straight into another weekend(ly) update also brings me to the latest installment of thoughts/impressions styled such. However despite sticking to the same (repeative) formula as it’s by distinctive by nowl, the release in spotlight for today’s entry in contrast brings me to some newly done for N-Field. As forewarned back during the entry dedictated on the C74 REI’s ROOM Set, yours truly is aiming to take up character goods or more precisely phrased attempting to get some “reviews” on this collectibles done for N-Field as well. And while two full months passed by since I made mention of those upcoming posting plans, today’s entry is going to set the starting point for them lastly. With the series this goodie has been put out for been focus of the talk conducted here for a while now – ranging from thoughts/impressions on the Image Album up to the one for the Doujinshi and Anime series, I thought that the logical next step to round up and moreover best way to get this newly launched feature on N-Field commenced would be another sola focused write-up. And after intensive studies on how much more professional blogs and sites than mine, which are dedicated on this lovely category of goods handle and present their reviews, I hope that this first edition of my try at it ends up to provide fellow collectors out there with some write-up that is at least vaguely as informative (and as always, comments/suggestions/critism is highly welcomed and much appreciated though! Btw. yeah I know that I should improve my photographing skills here…). So let’s head right into this first (stand-alone) attempt at a Dakimakura thoughts/impressions entry.

Back during the broadcast (and summerly) heat of the sola TV Anime, monthly Comic Dengeki Daioh, which had the Manga porting serialized by then, announced within its July 2007 issue an exclusive mail order goodie themed for the series and illustrated by artistical creative mind behind the media project sola – the so-titled Matsuri & Aono Ryoumen Dakimakura. It should take Media Works full four months (with mail order acceptance start in June) until the sought-for item, we sola fans sent in the order form/coupon to apply for, got shipped.
And so, slightly past the September ’07 send-out, a rather solid big package arrived here. Once the packing carton was opened (torn apart ^_~), the included goodie turned out not to be of much less size either. Reason for that visable on first sight, because the sola Dakimakura Cover itslef comes along as Set with a Hontai – the body pillow unit which the cover is supposed to be sheathed onto. This part of the “Set” got also tightly plastic packed and folded up as well. Sized 120 x 43 cm the Dakimakura Cover ranges at slightly smaller dimensions for character goods of this category than it mostly is the case (there’s no fixed standard here as far as I’m aware though) but with the properly fitting pillow attached to it, that’s no reason left to complain. Besides, despite the old saying of that size counts (and we all know, that’s true ^_^) “petit” is definitely not the word that comes to mind on closer inspection of the sola Dakimakura Cover. As material used for the Cover the “insturction leaflet” attached to it, states that it’s consists of polyester which is less as sparkling and fine of texture like used for the above mentioned (and previously reviewed) REI’s ROOM Dakimakura Cover, but still of good quality.
Content data notes aside, let me continue with some comments regarding the main attraction and reason for acquisition here – the Dakimakura Cover itself. Frankly, my spending on Anime related goods is kept quite thin (in stark contrast to the part that goes towards  Doujin and Bishoujo Soft) and hence hardly ever I go out of my way in these regards when it comes to goodies of a price class such as this one. sola is however among the rare exceptions made, because (if previous topic related postings here didn’t make that obvious enough, than let me phrase it out once again) the sola project as a whole got me hooked from the very starting point (the Doujinshi) ’till and especially through the TV Anime made for it later on through which sola gained itself a top spot among those all time favorite Anime series I’ve had the pleasure to collect and therewith experience. So up to a huge part the spending conducted for this goodie roots to that I’m deeply in fanboyish love when it comes to sola, but there are several or actually quite a bunch of more reasons that led me to go for this Dakimakura Set.
No doubt about it, Naru Nanao is an artistical genius and among my overall favorites when it comes to Japan’s Bishoujo / Moe artists. Therefore when the above mentioned announcement by Dengeki also dropped that it would be original artist/designer Nanao-sensei in charge for the Dakimakura art, that aspect not only raised my attention but I’d say it set half of the deal for me there. The other reasoning which made me mobilize my deputy service of trust in no matter of time to place an order for this goodie on my behalf relates to the character(s) featured on it. Because rather than to make the two sides of the cover soley focusing on one character from the series, Nanao-sensei / Media Works executed a different (and quite superior in my view) concept for the sola Ryoumen Dakimakura. While I probably would have gone for both, if two seperated such goodies would have been released, the lead heroines of sola were combined for this release. Not in the dirty double entendre way this may sound, but as the pictures taken of the Dakimakura hopefully showcase good enough, the two sides feature one of the heroines each – front side with Matsuri on it, while the back side has Aono featured in “life size”. For both sola girls Nanao-sensei pulled off her distinctive and so much appreciated delicate and highly refined art style as well as the unique coloration technique.
Matsuri drawn/shown in her casual/street-wear as she appeared within the series, with a deredere facial expression while her slightly slipped-off stockings hit hard on the moe sensors. Aono on the (literal) other side is featured wearing the Yukata she’s shown during the hospital times early in sola. The facial expression of hers not ranking behind on the moe scale to front side Matsuri, Nanao-sensei drew Aono in the same slight fanservicey posing with some revealed legs shown through the Yukata dressing. That said, while both sola heroines are shown in more or less goodie typical “bed-time posing” which caters to some extend to the fanservice demands of the fanboy/girl, it stays at this. Meaning that while coming along with quite some sexy beauty as Nanao is capable to produce here, the concept for the featured heroine illustrations stick to suggestive at best with no or not too private (parts) shown. This possible reason for complaint to some fans towards the sola Ryoumen Dakimakura is in fact though steamed down with both lead female characters featured on the goodie (which I doubt could have been remained as fanservicey clear that way if Media Works would have released a Set of sola Dakimakura for the two girls seperately each). Personally speaking there’s so much there to fall in love with this sola themed goodie that it’s hard for me to find a starting point to comment on. The artworks themself are firstly original / newly illustrated ones which adds in a big fat plus in my book, making the acquisition of this not so inexpensive item more than worth it. Quality wise there’s Nanao-sensei goodness from literally head to toe showcased here and the top notch print job done for the Dakimakura Cover enables perfect showcasing of the high quality the artistical mastermind skillfully presents here (even though I’d prefer the same texture to be used here as the Doujin released magic a ride Haya Dakimakura).
Ultimately and much as noted to myself on first (closer) inspection of the sola Ryoumen Dakimakura, this piece of sola goodness is througoutly worth the money and patience invested ’till it arrived. Top notch quality visable at each and every corner of the Cover and due to the Set styled release with the Hontai included it’s ready for displayal (and hugging) as well, which brings me to the conclusion that the rare exception made on an Anime themed goodie of this sort turned out to be a wise decission. Whether you’re into sola and/or Naru Nanao produced art goodness, I would encourage collectors who’re tempted on this Dakimakura release to go for it, while it still shows up (via the auction route for example). The mere downside here to make note of is that this release also represented the one and only of its kind, meaning that I would love to see more of the same concepted sola themed Dakimakura releases (a Mayuko or Mana one would be much appreciated and sold on) which given the project merchandise wave gone by now is more or rather less unlikely  to happen though.

Stick Poster inUgomachi mark II

4 01 2009

To all fellow Stick Poster collectors (or addicts) which still got some space left among their Binder, and even those of you, who’ve run out of Refills. Apparently due to the success this pop cultural event celebrated back in summer last year, the announcement has been dropped via the website of the Kagari Bishoujo Illustration Contest committee, that a follow-up event to Stick Poster inUgomachi has been decided, titled “Stick Poster inUgomachi mark II”.

Much as last time around, there’ll be a line-up of 16 famed artist/illustrator out of Japan’s Bishoujo Art industry, which will contribute Bishoujo art for a Stick Poster taking on a sight / cultural event of Ugomachi as theme each. For those wondering how such a popcultural goodie looks like, I may point out to the Stick Poster write-up done here a while ago, more precisely speaking this entry containing shots of  some Stick Poster published via/for this event (the Poster Hinoue Itaru and Nishimata Aoi illustrated).
Also mail order for the posters (16 Stick Poster in total, 1 box *such as shown on the picture above* priced 525 Yen incl. tax and containing two randomly packed Poster) much as the sale at shops in the area is slated, further details to follow (and those that missed out on some from last year’s line-up, a re-sale/re-release of the first Stick Poster inUgomachi Set is planned as well).
Of course while the *full* artist line-up has not yet been dropped (these were announced one after another back last year as well IIRC), the first guest Bishoujo illustrators contributing for Stick Poster inUgomachi mark II were announced and already include high profile and fan favorite names such as Komatsu E-ji, Mitha, Reine Hibiki, Shaa as well as Na-Ga. However non of the themes these five will bring to illustrated  Stick Poster goodness has been revealed yet.
That’s already 3 Stick Poster this collector has to get ahold of (Mitha, Na-Ga, Komatsu E-ji) and eleven more left to be announced. Any guesses? Personally I’d be an utterly happy fanboy if they could assign either REI, TINKLE, Tsubasu Izumi or CARNELIAN for their artist line-up, but I guess that’s another case of “time will tell”, nee? Of course, I’ll keep an eye on this issue and will update / add more information as such becomes available. Furthermore if last year’s Stick Poster inUgomachi was any indication of that sort, then especially collector’s that are running out of space to properly house/store their Stick Poster within their Binder might watch out because AQUAPLUS did actually re-release their exclusive packs of Refills “coincidentally” just a mere few days prior to the event back then. So I’d say that chances are high, they (AQUAPLUS) are conducting a similar scheme when it comes to cash us collectors off for 2009..not that I really mind, maybe this time around I won’t miss out on pre-ordering some packs and finally pay the original price of 1,995 Yen for them ^_~
To end this short write-up, lastly for those wondering what the rolled-up Stick Poster from the above featured picture is, here’s the moelicious revelation.

Stick Poster – sticking to collecting habits

9 08 2008

After the last couple of entries having resulted in borring people reading this blog with thoughts and impressions by this fanboy, how about little more variety with today’s? Actually given the talk about Telecards and their collecting a while ago, the focus or better phrased style of this little write-up won’t be something totally new or vastly unique, yet here I thought to get an entry on things concerning Stick Poster and collecting them a try for a while now (and yet never found the time to do so). As usual, here’s hoping that this attempt is providing a somewhat passable and maybe even informative read and so let’s see how the focus of today’s update works out.

Ice to Choco (left: KOKONOBI / right: Naru Nanao) Comic1 & Comic1☆2 Stick Poster

+ What exactely *is* a Stick Poster and what about the fascination to collect them?
According to the Official AQUAPLUS Stick Poster page, Stick Poster are in dimension 182mm x 515mm which also leads to the name/title given to them, meaning they’re not sticky but rather in size and shape resembling a stick. Moreover nowadays Stick Poster is a registered trademark by AQUAPLUS Inc. whom also therefore hold the monopoly position on things regarding this sort of merchandise branch as a whole. However AQUAPLUS being at the pulse of time (and probably also because they’ve not been the ones that invented this Poster format themself) drew several restrictions under which the name and format of Stick Posters are allowed to be used. Under these restrictions fall the following methods of publication for Stick Posters:
- Free sale promotion goods (i.e. handed out free Stick Posters)
- Event short terms sales such as Comic Market (which is specifically noted among the events falling under the restrictions at the Official AQUAPLUS Stick Poster website)
- Doujin Goods (part of Sets which is a very common publication practice for them these days)
Stick Poster released under these terms or better phrased which fall under the above noted conditions are allowed to be sold and do not require prior inquiry from AQUAPLUS. Any other release plans for Stick Poster (that including mail order offer by companies, or distributions through companies) do require the approval by AQUAPLUS prior to their publication.
However as noted, Stick Poster at least poster in the dimensions as nowadays knwon as the registered TM by AQUAPLUS were part of the Japanese merchandise industry already before. At least since the mid 90′s when the so-called Poster Dream Price machines found their ways into the market, which soon gained vast popularity and were established at Japan’s Arcade / Game Centers as well as Anime shops thereafter. Demand on these especially has rise through Otaku and bad tongues say the reason behind this item growing popularity as collective goods among Otaku being that they “want stuff for their hobby that isn’t ordinary and no one else collects” (yep, one of the sites I gathered my information on things regarding Stick Poster history from actually put it that way ^_~). Anyways the real popularity under the name and format/media we use to know and collect Stick Poster these days now has been detected and registered by AQUAPLUS.
As for explaning the fascination or why one would start collecting these goods among Japan’s Otaku Hobby item line-up in the first place tracks me somehow back to the very same reasoning recitet on things concerning Telecards. Personally I’ve gotten into Stick Poster collecting more or less automatically through my Doujinshi collecting/purchases because goods like these became a very popular and established sort of items to either round up a Set with or add them as part of a Goods Set by Doujin Circles nowadays – I’d say while not as fixed established as probably Telecards are, due to the production costs compared with Telecards Stick Poster are a much more common goodie now even used by smaller/less popular Circles to attach to their publications. And then there’s the non logically explainable part represented as well, that makes the collector’s heart filled with joy once a new Set arrives that carries along Stick Poster or when a sought-for poster shows up and you are able to adore it in its full glory at last once “rolled out”. Maybe at least to some part the bad tongue sentiment also applies to explain the full popularity and fame this merchandise branch gained in recent years.

Taisensou to Teien Hinoue Itaru Stick Poster in Ugomachi Poster

Among the most noteworthy events involving and aiming spotlight on Stick Poster as pop-cultural goods rather then truely geek only items was the recently conducted Stick Poster in Ugomachi project which has been held as part of the Akita prefecture Ogachigun Ugomachi summer festival on 28th June this year. For this part of the event a special collaboration between the area with beloved and famed artists among Japan’s (Bishoujo) Art industry such as Hinoue Itaru, POP, Nishimata Aoi, KEI or Sakurazawa Itu”mi has been executed with them having delivered illustrations publicated and featured on Stick Poster that were sold at local shops during the time and these poster illustrations were themed for the local sights of the area.

+ How about the pricing for Stick Posters?
Again drawing a comparisson with the other collectible devoted an entry on for this blog of mine, Stick Poster definitely range far below the price scale of Telecards. Of course the production and material used leads to this as well as the distribution methods for a little part as well (some Posters are feebies at company booth at events like SunCre, Comiket, etc.). However much like Telecards and collectibles in general, the pricing also tends to vary and definitely receives definition through the demand and how much fans are willing to spend on. Much like other merchandise prices for individual Stick Poster featuring illustrations by popular artists hence end up higher then those not having such attributes attached to. Yet even seperately sold and if it’s not a totally rare or hyped published item, Stick Poster prices could be narrowed to range from a minimum of a few hundred Yen up to the 1,000 to 2,000 Yen mark.
The real expensive element involved on proper collecting of them though comes into the play on things regarding storage and goods released *for* Stick Poster collecting – more on that later in the storage methods part of this entry.

TINKLE Comiket73 Stick Poster

+ How are Stick Posters released?
For this part of the entry I certainly can’t just “stick” to referr to the same ways and means of publication as written on things concerning Telecards and there’s moreover no comparisson between the release methods of Stick Poster to the beloved little plastic cards. This being mainly reasoned within the registered trademark status and therewith associated and above recited restrictions AQUAPLUS put up for the publication of Stick Poster.
However while it does require approval/inquiry of AQUAPLUS in order to publish these goods on a commerical base, that doesn’t mean no company ever has done so in order to receive the greenlight to officially release sets/collections. In fact it merely takes a visit at the Official Stick Poster page by AQUAPLUS to get an idea of how many collections have been brought of through official and commercial ways by approval and/or production/conjunction with AQUAPLUS themself.
Admitted the majority of these official collections though mainly cater to the interest and collectible will of Anime fans and/or fans of AQUAPLUS projects such as the popular ToHeart series, but official Stick Poster releases can also be found as part of official goods such as pre-order bonus that companies offer and attach for new products (i.e. Bishoujo Soft releases, etc.).
Moreover aside of official releases may lead to an one-sided theme representation among Stick Poster releases, this impression receives total disagreement once enhancing the specturm of Stick Poster publications on fields such as the Doujin industry of Japan. As mentioned alongside this entry, Stick Poster are allowed to be brought out as part of Doujin Goods or for short term events like Comiket, SunCre and their likes.
And the multiplicity of Doujin Circles are definitely aware of that and furthermore make usage of that condition to publicate Stick Poster – hence these collectibles range among a very common sort of goods for new Circle (goods) Set releases with even the very own staff members of AQUAPLUS such as aritst Misato Mitsumi (CUT A DASH!!) or Tatsuki Amaduyu (BLAZER ONE) enhancing and adding Stick Poster to their full sets. This release method of Stick Poster also showcases the creativity of artists and their Circles decided on coming up with these goods for their releases as aside of the more common practice to publish “merely” a new set (mostly these consist of two posters) of Stick Poster it’s I’d say thanks to the Doujin scene (at least I’m inclined to believe so) that different types of these such as the popular Clear Stick Poster (which is not made out of the same paper as normal Stick Poster rather then similar or same material like Shitajiki and/or Clear Files) have been brought up for the assortment of types available to collectors of these goods. Another such example being the especially designed/sized Set bags which you can carry along the Stick Poster among the other goods or Doujins a Circle put out among their Sets – here I merely refer as example of such already noted on this blog of mine to the recently posted entry regarding the HappyBirthday Comic1☆2 Set which includes such a special bag.

Stick Poster Cases

Purchasing Stick Poster (sets) these often come housed either in plastic wrapping to maintain a good state of preservation during the delivery process, bag like the noted such or which is also a popular packing method cases. These cases are basically tiny cardboard boxes wherein the posters are included much in the same rolled-up manner as you’ll get them in plastic wrapping (the only type of Stick Poster that you usually won’t get rolled-up are Clear Stick Poster because those wouldn’t be able to be rolled due to the firm material they’re made out of). However because some of  those cases featuring art or illustrations (Doujin Circles like to include the poster art often on the design of the cases) on the outside as well, they’re the sort of packing presentation collectors won’t easily throw away because of them being quite “collectworthy” as well (and in fact at times offers for Doujin sets including Stick Poster that are still housed within those cases end up at higher prices due to this being not only attributed to good condition of the set as a whole rather then collectors being interested in getting ahold of the cases as well).
Aside of Doujin Circle to publicate these, Doujin events also are used for companies and shops like K-BOOKS to distribute Stick Poster as part of their booth freebies (and as everyone who’s attended any kind of market knows certainly best – once you get some free stuff you’re willing to spent some money on the priced one as well ^_~).
Summing up this section of this write-up there’s certainly monotonousness among Stick Poster releases, it merely requires to enhance the perspective to testify there’s a colorful and huge range of these goods and fans definitely won’t be running into a shortcoming of new publications.

K-BOOKS TINKLE Stick Poster

On a note regarding purchase options for Stick Poster there’s to my knowledge at least no (online) shop that specialized on this merchandise branch (in contrast to Telecards as example). Maybe that’s also because of the restrictions or maybe Stick Poster despite the popularity gained still hasn’t established itself as such a profitable genre of goods that would make it worth to run a specialized shop for. So pretty much the only routes to do some Stick Poster shopping is either through auctions or on things regarding officially released collections once again AQUAPLUS’ Official shop (which includes a Stick Poster category).

+ How to properly store and display Stick Poster?
Much like it’s the case with other collectibles, there are naturally also means of storage and display available for collectors of Stick Poster. Of course theoretically you *could* merely stick / hang them up and decorate your interior house walls with, but here we’re talking about Otaku and even worse collectors *j/k* and if there’s one thing we dread the most it’s the precious collectibles catching dust and even more inexuseable if these precious items get damaged in the process. Personally I don’t know any of my fellow Stick Poster collecting friends that display their posters this way left alone would consider to do so.
And right there AQUAPLUS appears on the stage again, offering proper methods of storage and display for the goods they registered as trademark. Hence much like in case of the Stick Poster themself, there’s little way around to do some shopping through them in case you plan on getting a proper Stick Poster collection started, as AQUAPLUS also in these regards are about the only producer of goods for the goods ^_~ The downside of this being of course that if there is no handy item for us Stick Poster addicts published by AQUAPLUS then such an item does not exist and the same applies to when it comes to availability of existing items – Refills being the first and foremost that spring to mind. If you still insist on displaying or framing your Stick Poster seperately then for example there are methods such as Stand Sets, Clear frames and their likes available – all at a relative high price which apparently AQUAPLUS is permitted to do so due to the monopoly position they inherit on this branch of merchandise to begin with.

Stick Poster Collection Binder

To most Stick Poster collectors though a much more trusted way of storing and at the same time offering display method for their collection is the so-called Stick Poster Collection Binder. Despite this  in direct comparisson of pricing against such of frames and Stand Sets might initially appear to be settled higher the Binders yet truely pay off on a long term. These are specially designed in the same dimension as what they’re supposed to house. AQUAPLUS manufactures new such Collection Binder for which they collaborate with well known (Bishoujo) artists that are contributing illustrations  featured on the front of the Binder. The one I currently have in usage is (as shown on the picture taken of) for example illustrated by Naru Nanao on the front side (with the back merely having the Stick Poster Collectors Binder writting/logo on the backside). And because a loose Binder won’t help you storing the Posters these come along with 10 Refills enabling storage for 20 Stick Poster in total (storing 2 per Refill). So what are Refills? These are transparent sheets also especially designed in the dimensions to enable storage and also display of a Stick Poster within. Of course with merely ten such Refills coming along a newly purchased Binder and collector’s usually not stopping once their collection reached the 20 poster mark, one easily finds him/herself running out of space – especially if you’re into official released collections or Doujin published Stick Poster (with the two posters per Set being a common release practice for Circles) you’ll pretty soon run out of Refills. The solution for this problem? Well actually the answer for that problem is quite simple – purchase more Refills.
But as simple as that may sound it prooves to be a much harder task to be carried out, because Refills are ironically not among the selection line-up of AQUAPLUS produced Stick Poster items that are always available. In fact since I’ve gotten into collecting these goods, I merely witnessed twice that AQUAPLUS offered Refills seperately for order via their shop. These seperately sold packs of Stick Poster Refills contain 10 sheets each at a price per pack of 1,995 Yen (incl. tax). As you can imagine with the popularity of Stick Poster collecting, the demand in such Refills was apparently high enough in that they sold out pretty much everywhere (online) the day after these have been published (and that’s also including shops that carry products by AQUAPLUS as well like Amazon.jp).

Refills

Refill packs sometimes show up “secondhand” (still sealed and all so actually in new condition) at places like the Yahoo! Auctions Japan, but here it should be noted that most seller know exactely about the limited availability / shortage and hence definitely won’t offer these (left alone put them up with “buy now” option) at the already high but still compareable good price of 1,995 Yen. In fact having gone for Refills that route already, I purchased two packs (20 sheets) at the almost same price I could have gone for two new Binders.
That brings us right to another option in case you’re running out of Refill sheets with the Binder you have in use – purchase a new Binder, since (as noted) each new such comes along with 10 new Refills. That’s quite a costly pleasure given that a new Binder ranges at 3,000+ Yen, but pretty much the only option if there’s no other chance to get ahold of Refills. Here’s hoping that AQUAPLUS will soon start to manufacture the Refills on a greater scale, though I somewhat have my doubt on that – given that this way around they can make quite considerably more profit and cash-off on collectors.
Another option for Stick Poster storage available as it’s been pointed out to me recently by Natsume_Maya are the so-called Stick Poster Case which WhiteCanvas offers for purchase as it’s been released for their goods line-up back at Comiket72. However these cases seemingly (I did not try to order them yet – though it should be noted that WhiteCanvas actually ships overseas) are mainly ment for storage rather then display of the posters unlike the Refills for Binders. Given that the cardboard boxes Stick Posters are released in are also refered to as cases, there’s the possibility (and given the price of mere 500 Yen per case not unlikely I’d say) these are just the very same but seperately available cardboard boxes (cases) for storing rolled-up Stick Poster inside.
And of course there are lots of other additional goods made available via AQUAPLUS for collectors of Stick Poster such as original bag to store and always carry along your Binder with for “mere” 5,229 Yen (incl. tax). So speaking of storage opportunities for things concerning Stick Poster collecting tracks me ultimately back to the pricing involved on this hobby as previously noted. While the goods themself – the posters – are not the truely cost intensive part of this merchandise branch, it does soon become expensive once reaching this part of the collector’s duty. While here I specifically want to note that I certainly do not try to talk someone out this hobby at all, one should be aware that much like in case of other forms of collectibles, Stick Poster collecting contains and brings along costworthy elements as well (despite getting “blinded” by prices of Stick Poster themself is certainly tempting). Maybe though this sounds all worse then it actually is – while personally speaking especially being a Doujin addicted fanboy as well, here I found myself having 10 sheets of Refills soon filled with posters, one may will get by with this amount of Refills longer and it’s not that one would need to drop each and every month 3,000 Yen for a new Binder anyways.

PINK CHUCHU Comic1☆2 Stick Poster Set

Before concluding today’s entry let me add the usual note that here’s hoping this resulted into a halfway passable and maybe to some degree informative write-up. Much like as with all content posted on N-Fields by yours truly – feedback, critism, etc. is always welcomed (though yeah I know, the comment feature does not work). All in all Stick Poster collecting is much like any other form of hobby wonderful yet comes along with slightly no so bright or let’s leave it at calling it cost intensive elements as well (as if there’s any collecting habbit wether Otaku aimed or not that would truely be for free ^_~). Repeating myself with what previously phrased, the collector knows best that its very much worth the time and money invested once a new sought-after Stick Poster finally shows up to bring some more joy to the oneself as well as enrich the collection.

Standby ready. Set up!

31 07 2008

As it’s been unveilled via the September (which also marks the 100th anniversary) issue of Megami Magazine which went on sale as of the other day (news though leaked slightly prior to its publication) and spreading like wildfire over the WWW bringing joy to all fanboys/girls, after three series Masaki Tsuzuki’s uber-popular Triangle Heart “spin-off” Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha will receive theatrical Anime treatment in order to keep us Otaku coming out of our closets (or at least those lucky Japanese that will have the chance to see this in theaters ^_^”).
Anyways while I assume every person following Anime related news (even on an irregular basis) read about this by now and on a general note there are *far* better places to catch-up with such news anyways, given the love for things Nanoha yours truly thought it would be worth coming up with an entry/mention of this despite that. So as it’s been unveilled through the coverage this bit of news received at sites/blogs like Moetron the title this project is given is Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha The MOVIE 1st and will be a re-telling/interpretion of the first encounter between Nanoha and Fate, featuring new designs and settings. Dengeki Online put up a short artile/feature regarding that project in which it’s mentioned that these new designs are supposed to be aimed towards costume and device designs – more on that costume/device redesign cleared up/noted over at the respective thread for it on the AoDVD forum
So to round things up let’s go through the staff/cast details dropped via that Dengeki Online feature, which aren’t coming surprising rather then seemingly the staff (and cast) that worked on the three series already slated to resume their jobs for the movie. Opening/Release to public is slated for 2009 according to Dengeki.

Okay so given that I had to drop plans for taking my long-planned Japan trip within 2008 (the soonest I *could* manage to take that and arrange so with work would be winter anyways) this lovely theatrical project would be an ideal target to newly arrange travel plans don’t ya thing?
Here’s hoping for a summer release (maybe prior to Comiket…who knows?) ^_^”
Of course people knowing my posting patterns for N-Field by now, probably guessed so that rephrasing news as it’s been posted long before I happen to notice or witness such wasn’t my only intention of getting today’s update a Nanoha focused one. Initially I thought to take the chance in order to get the long-planned entry on PINK VISION goodness and/or the hinted but never done one on the Nanoha StrikerS Settei Shiryoushuu SIDE A book written, but ultimately decided against (I don’t wanna ruin the joy over more Nanoha goodness by borring people following this blog *assuming there are such out there ^_~* with such a rambling today).
Instead let’s continue the theme of this entry with some other silly ranting over other cost-intensive upcoming Nanoha goodness ^_^

And what better upcoming Nanoha related release could there be then Yagami Hayate in 1/7 scale? I showed *lots* of restraint when it comes to figure collecting in general and even moreso when ALTER came up with the PVC porting of Reinforce II based on Tsumetsuka Hiroyuki’s sculpturing (and Kit). Believe me, I was merely a few moments away from pressing the pre-order button for that figure release once it started appearing on hobby shops and it took even more restraint not to sneak that one through the Yahoo! Auctions Jp when it faced its release date in May. Yet ever since I stumbled over Tsumetsuka’s Official HP and found the a-w-e-s-o-m-e Hayate Kit goodness he crafted for Wonder Festival, I knew that once ALTER would announce the PVC porting based on his designs/sculpturing, all the painfully acchieved resistance to willing in and dropping lots of money on figures would crumble in no matter of time…of course it did. ALTER’s Hayate will be mine in October despite the price of 10,290 Yen (incl. tax) attached to it – but she’s in this fanboy’s opinion so damn worth every single Yen of it.
And while my financials definitely not bear any more assaults, silly me took a glimpse at Tsumetsuka’s Circle website – LIVEDOM – and of course by doing so crossing through the recently put up subsite containing the line-up information of LIVEDOM for the upcoming 2008 summer edition of Winter Festival was rather inevitable. So let’s have a look at what Nanoha goodness LIVEDOM slates for the event and which sort of provides a preview on future assaults on the fans’ wallets:

+FATE THE -SONIC-
Sculpturing: Tsumetsuka Hiroyuki
Quantity released: 100 units
Price: 9,000 Yen

+Vivio’s Rabbit
Sculpturing: Tsumetsuka Hiroyuki
Quantity released: 10 units
Price: 2,000 Yen
So cute but I guess given the limitation/no. of units this pre-painted model will be released, prices will clearly range way beyond the one announced/attached to it

+Start up -Exelion Mode-
Sculpturing: Tsumetsuka Hiroyuki
Quantity released: 50 units
Price: 10,000 Yen
This is actually no new but rather a resale of the 2007 winter Wonder Festival released kit

For those wondering, yes the lovely Nanoha illustrations featured on the packaging of the LIVEDOM kits are contributed by Endori or MOON STONE fame.
That said Endori is going to attend the upcoming Comiket74 with her Circle as well and speaking of that summer event we Doujin collectors are anticipating the most right now, according to the Official Nanoha HP there’ll be participation and goods released for the NanohaStrikerS PROJECT as well – details for which Goods will be unleashed to follow yet though (but if I’m not totally wrong the above mentioned Megami Magazine issue had more details on these as well).
So summed up there’s lots of new Nanoha goodness to look forward to and which will keep us (and our wallets) busy enough.

PS: For those wondering the image used for this entry is an Nanoha illustration which Takeuchi Takashi (TYPE-MOON with coloration done by BLACK) as done for (and taken from for this entry ^_^) the tribute booklet an issue of Megami Magazine came along with (which also was my crucial reason for having picked up that particular issue ^_^”).

**2008/08/02 Update – The Official Nanoha site had an update unveilling details for the Nanoha StrikerS PROJECT planned for Comiket74. Aside of neat goods like the Nanoha & Fate Romantic Pillowcase, Emblem T-Shirts, Stickers and other stuff the highlight out of this collection clearly represents the StrikerS Sound stage X which will be put out as limited release (regular one slated to follow). This Drama CD release also got its own page with lots of tempting sale points announced. It’ll be a 2 CD set that comes along with a 20 pages booklet as well as special postcards (2 pieces) for 4,000 Yen. Among the best elements included to us I’ve Sound fanboys/girls however is that it’ll feature contribution by the Sound label! Titled “My Friend” the ED song will mark the first I’ve Sound x Nanoha collaboration and in charge of vocal performance the site credits Mami Kawada. Story of the Drama is written by Masaki Tsuzuki btw. ^_~
I guess that makes it another “to get ahold of”- goodie published for Comiket74 (as if with recent updates on artist/Circle sites that list of mine wouldn’t so not go along with my financials smooth already ^_^”) and I must note for myself that I haven’t been as excited over a Drama CD release like that since the ALL AROUND TYPE-MOON Drama CD set (though if Takeuchi Takashi and Kinoku Nasu would finally drop details on what Kara no Kyoukai the Garden of sinners/recalled out summer would be that might change ^_^)
